Viveve for Urinary Stress Incontinence Q & A

Why do I have urinary stress incontinence?

As time passes, your vaginal tissue goes through changes. Fibers of the tissue-supporting protein collagen lose their youthful strength and vitality. Looseness, or laxity, in the tissue results, especially in the vaginal opening.

Vaginal laxity is an extremely common symptom in women’s health caused by aging, childbirth, genetics, and lifestyle. The laxity can lead to stress urinary incontinence, marked by the occasional leaking of urine when the muscles are triggered during a sneeze, cough, or jump.

What is Viveve for urinary stress incontinence?

Viveve uses radiofrequency technology to tighten the collagen fibers contributing to vaginal tissue laxity. Dr. Grier performs this comfortable treatment in just 30 minutes right in the office.

The technology is effective but gentle. When applied via a sterile wand, the radiofrequency energy penetrates deeply below the surface of your vaginal tissue to stimulate healing. You’ll need no anesthesia or numbing cream.

When will I notice the results of Viveve for urinary stress incontinence?

Your body responds to the treatment by generating new collagen and restoring existing collagen. This means stronger, more resilient vaginal tissue.

You’ll typically feel the results in about 30 days, with optimal results in about three months. Results continue for about one year, after which you can come in for a maintenance treatment.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for Viveve for urinary stress incontinence?

Any woman older than 18 who experiences urinary stress incontinence may benefit. Viveve treatment can help if you:

  • Leak urine when you laugh, cough, sneeze, or work out
  • Have air passing from your vagina during exercise, such as during yoga or cycling
  • Experience reduced strength of your orgasms or find it hard to reach orgasm
  • Feel decreased arousal or physical sensation during intercourse
  • Find tampons slip or don’t fit snugly

Vaginal laxity can also result in low self-confidence or poor sexual self-image. Contact Dr. Grier if you experience these symptoms and desire relief. She can review your medical history and symptoms to determine if Viveve is the right procedure for you.
